Miles High

with 3 comments

Hello all.

During my Equinox show at Gallery ArtsPlus Belleville  I’ll be providing information regarding the images ever few days. Today I take you high into the sky with a print titled Miles High.

'Miles High'

I titled it Miles High because the aeroplane that is producing the contrail is about 7miles up in the sky between Toronto and Montreal. It is probably on route from somewhere in the US to Europe and the crew would be settling down for a short night as they race towards the sunrise that they will meet over the Eastern Atlantic in a few hours time.   I personally love the colours and the way the light from the setting sun plays with the clouds creating an amazing perspective, suggesting a very high vantage point.

This print is FOR SALE in a variety of sizes and price points and as always is subject to a maximum of 50 in total. For a limited time (26 March – 26 April 2009) it can be purchased through GalleryArtsPlus, Belleville. Following the show CLICK HERE to find out how to purchase.

All the best, Steven

…is the title of a recently published article in a specialist Ontario newspaper called ‘School Advocate’. As it’s name suggests it centred around education and is published quarterly.

My assignment was to cover the RCMP Musical ride from an educational aspect and required both photography and also text. The event is very dynamic and I decided to use two cameras, one with the Nikons classic reporting lens, the 28-70 f2.8 G and the other with the 70-200 f2.8 G VR. Two images were eventually used, one two support article and another was used as a thumbnail on the front page.

‘Story, Story, Story!’

Journalistic imaging is different from fine art in the pace at which things are required. However ‘Story, story, story’ is critical in grabbing attention, along with image quality that comes from good technique and equipment. The first image, from which a thumbnail was used, shows why it is worth hanging about after the main event for a few moments!

Studio Tour 2009

leave a comment »

I’m very pleased to announce today that Steven Draper Photography has been accepted onto the prestigious Prince Edward County Studio Tour 2009. To be accepted requires not only a studio to meet strict criteria regarding public visits but a Jury to assess a current portfolio of work. The standard has to be among the very best in order to gain acceptance.

So I’m very excited! This event brings thousands of art loving couples, individuals and art collectors to Prince Edward County during the three day event which takes place in mid September, although many studios are open throughout the year. (check 09 tour guide on publication for details) It provides an opportunity to experience a huge amount of behind the scenes information about artists work, the equipment, and techniques etc.

I’ll be publishing further details here in due course, but if you are in Ontario during 2009 and enjoy meeting the people behind the words and pictures of blogs then please drop us a line and I’d love to have you visit.

To get a flavour of the quality of the ‘PEC arts tour’ please take a look at the 2008 Tour Guide.
